Both hilltops in the morning while the light is clean and the Búnkers is open, the medieval core and the market in the afternoon, the arrival-basics run near the hotel, then El Born after dark. The Sagrada is tomorrow, on an afternoon ticket.

Before you leave the door
Park Güell and the Búnkers sit on the same ridge, do them back to back in the morning. The Búnkers is fenced now and shuts at 17:30 in October, so it is a midday panorama, not a sunset. Save sunset for the open Montjuïc terrace tomorrow.

- The great serpentine bench on the Park Güell terrace is one unbroken undulating line, sit in it and it fits your back. The trencadís (broken-tile mosaic) is made from factory rejects and smashed crockery: look for a doll's face, a cup handle, a bottle base.
- In the Hypostyle Hall below the terrace, one column leans and is wrapped in mosaic, locals call her la bugadera, the washerwoman.
- Up at the Búnkers, the concrete rings in the ground are the mounts for the 1938 anti-aircraft guns that defended the city.
The things you'd wish you knew
Park Güell was a failed luxury housing estate, 60 plots planned, only 2 ever sold. One was Gaudí's own house (now a small museum). The city bought the rest in 1922 and made it a park.
The Búnkers del Carmel were Republican gun batteries during the Civil War, then a shantytown called Los Cañones until the 1990 Olympics cleanup. It's still free, and still the best 360° view in Barcelona, which is why Julian sends you there. The city fenced the top and set daytime-only hours in 2023 after the night crowds got out of hand.
