Both hilltops in the morning while the light is clean and the Búnkers is open, the medieval core and the market in the afternoon, the arrival-basics run near the hotel, then El Born after dark. Julian's speakeasy tip closes the night out, a quick, unplanned drink two minutes off Carrer Montcada, nothing more. The Sagrada is tomorrow, on an afternoon ticket with a slow, no-alarm-clock start, so there's no reason to cut the night short.

Park Güell, Monumental Zone, booked entry (first tourist slot is 09:30). The mosaic terrace, the Hypostyle Hall, the dragon. Then walk out the free Carmel side toward the hill.
11:15-12:15
Búnkers del Carmel / Turó de la Rovira, a short walk or bus 119 from Park Güell, both sit on the same ridge. The 360° panorama of the whole city from the old anti-aircraft platform. Free.
The site is fenced and closes at 17:30 in October, so it is a daytime stop, not sunset. Reconfirm before departure: current Turó de la Rovira hours. map

Down to Gràcia for an early lunch, then a quick look at Plaça del Sol and Plaça de la Vila. A different, villagey Barcelona. Start back up the hill by 13:05.

02Afternoon

Casa Museu Gaudí (the Gaudí House Museum, inside Park Güell), 2 tickets bought online for 13:30. Gaudí's own pink house and furniture. Reservations are held for 30 minutes after the start time.
This ticket was added on the day (bought at about 10:00). It is a separate ticket from the 09:30 Monumental Zone one. The locator and QR are on the confirmation email filed under the Europe label. If the morning runs long, skip it, the Gràcia lunch is the flexible block.

Walk La Rambla once, top to bottom, for the spectacle: the flower stalls, the living statues, the Miró mosaic underfoot at Pla de l'Os, the Liceu opera house. Then La Boqueria, walk past the front stalls to the back bars (El Quim, Pinotxo) for a jamón plate, a fresh juice, an oyster.

Gothic Quarter, properly, the Roman wall, Plaça del Rei, Carrer de Petritxol (churros later), the Cathedral cloister geese.

The arrival-basics run, 20 minutes: a farmàcia (green cross) and a supermarket near the hotel for full-size sunscreen, any toiletries you didn't pack, tissues, and a bladeless corkscrew if you skipped one. Get blister plasters (Compeed) too.

El Born, Santa Maria del Mar (go in, it's free and extraordinary), then the little streets: Passeig del Born, Carrer Montcada.

A quick, random drink, Julian's tip: Dr. Stravinsky, a hidden, laboratory-themed speakeasy two minutes off Carrer Montcada. One round, no plan beyond that.

Order: Whatever the day's rice is, a paella or fideuà (short noodles, not rice) plus escalivada (smoked pepper + aubergine) and a crema catalana to finish.

house pick Fourth-generation cava bar, tinned anchovies, standing room only, the real thing, not the Instagram version. Then Bormuth or Cal Pep's bar for a second round.
Order: The house anchovies (the reason to come), pa amb tomàquet, manchego, and the cloudy house cava, this bar's actual namesake. A glass of Moscatel if you want something sweet after. Cash-friendly, no reservations, go by 20:00 or after 21:30.

Before you leave the door
Insider edge
Park Güell and the Búnkers sit on the same ridge, do them back to back in the morning. The Búnkers is fenced now and shuts at 17:30 in October, so it is a midday panorama, not a sunset. Save sunset for the open Montjuïc terrace tomorrow.

House pickLook for it on the walk
- The great serpentine bench on the Park Güell terrace is one unbroken undulating line, sit in it and it fits your back. The trencadís (broken-tile mosaic) is made from factory rejects and smashed crockery: look for a doll's face, a cup handle, a bottle base.
- In the Hypostyle Hall below the terrace, one column leans and is wrapped in mosaic, locals call her la bugadera, the washerwoman.
- Up at the Búnkers, the concrete rings in the ground are the mounts for the 1938 anti-aircraft guns that defended the city.
The things you'd wish you knew
Park Güell was a failed luxury housing estate, 60 plots planned, only 2 ever sold. One was Gaudí's own house (now a small museum). The city bought the rest in 1922 and made it a park.
The Búnkers del Carmel were Republican gun batteries during the Civil War, then a shantytown called Los Cañones until the 1990 Olympics cleanup. It's still free, and still the best 360° view in Barcelona, which is why Julian sends you there. The city fenced the top and set daytime-only hours in 2023 after the night crowds got out of hand.
